Living Funerals

“If winter comes, can spring be far behind?”

.                                                                         ~ Shelley

Having lost my father to suicide when I was only 13, I once thought I could never perform a service – giving recognition and closure – for the family and friends of a recently passed loved one. I felt the grief and anguish would be too much.

However, a dear friend did not give me the option to decline and I now consider that chairing someone’s final send off is the ultimate honour of a Celebrant.

Right now you are distraught with sadness, heartache and questions of why? I promise that, having an appropriate, meaningful and heartfelt ceremony for your loved one, will go a long way towards ensuring the healing (not immediately, but eventually) of yourself, your family and his or her friends.

We all acknowledge – as painful as it is – that life, in its very essence, requires a birth and a death. What I am coming to realise is that the death is not a silent, bleak end. Rather, it is a punctuation mark for our life on this planet – definitely not a full stop.  It is an occurence that requires a fitting tribute and I would be honoured to be entrusted with this responsibility.
