Quote from a dinner party guest I sat opposite, recently:

It took all my self control not to throw my Chardy on him!

But, I wish I had seen this YouTube short film then, because I would have grabbed the nearest laptop and told him to sit down, shut up and watch!

Outside Con’s Fruit & Vege stand, being an ‘apple’ is usually a less-than-desirable term for a ‘rotund’ figure… especially when compared to a ‘pear’ or ‘celery stick’.  But in light of David Murray’s article – “Shonky wedding celebrants just take the cake!” in last Sunday’s  paper (01 April, 2012), I am ‘loud and proud’ to be an ‘apple’… verses a ‘lemon’… of a Celebrant.

It’s amazing how quickly things change. 

Up until my recent ‘head hunt’ as a Preferred Celebrant for some of Brisbane’s most predominant reception venues – which all came completely out of the blue, let me tell you – a ‘wedding season’ definitely existed for me… and, therefore, Momentus.

Yep, the beautifully cooler months of August through to early November - for South East Queensland, were ‘it’ for Brides and Grooms, and needless to say, it was a time of year I absolutely loved!

But this year, my world as a Celebrant is completely, completely different.

End January 2012 through to this minute, has seen four beautiful – yet astoundingly different – couples marry ‘in my bubble’; Civil Partnerships are coming to the fore; Renewals of Vows are springing beautifully to life, like those gorgeous white button mushrooms post the rain; and bubbies – via Baby Namings – are being given ‘introductions’ to this crazy world of our’s by the most devoted and caring of parents.

So, who could possibly call this a job – and with a ‘working dairy’ now extending as far as end 2014 (!!!), I am overjoyed that ’Wedding Season’ is no longer a part of my vocabulary!

Tonight, six Queensland couples celebrate their newly declared Civil Partnership.

I hope, that as I type you, are in the midst of celebrations, and know that many of us are cheers-ing you from afar!

And to the 150, that have already registered their Intentions to follow in your footsteps… bring it on, because this is a right that I want to see respected post the election.

For boys… for girls… or those who want an alternative to marriage… today is your day!  And I am so, SO happy for you.

For too long, lifelong love and long term commitment have had to exist without recognition from our law, but today all that changes. 

So, to those excitedly preparing for their Civil Partnership Declaration at Birth, Deaths and Marriages – or elsewhere around the State (Qld, Australia) – have an absolutely amazing day.  I am SO happy for you, and only apologise on our Government’s behalf, that it has taken this long to give you what you so rightfully deserve.

And come April 2, 2012… when Applications for Civil Partnership Notaries are accepted… I will be right up there… chomping at the bit… to be ‘donned on the head’… and then be able to offically help other couples follow in your footsteps.

So here’s to real love, life long partnership and maybe even a bit of glitter and hot pants – if it blows your skirt up!
